Companionship and home support in West Surrey

Time for Tea Companions gives one-to-one support to adults in West Surrey.

A companion can visit you at home. They can also support you when you go out.

A companion may help you:

• have company and someone to talk to
• do light tasks at home
• prepare and share a meal
• care for or walk your pet
• go shopping
• visit local groups and places
• enjoy hobbies and activities
• travel to appointments
• take notes at appointments
• speak up about the help you need
• stay active and meet other people

The service can support people with dementia. A companion can spend time with the person while their carer takes a break.

Companions can also visit people who live in a care home. They can help them build confidence and join group activities.

The team will talk with you about the support you need. They will match you with a companion based on where you live, your interests and the times you need help.

You can meet your companion before visits start. Support will only start when everyone is happy with the match.

Companions have training in safe care and early dementia awareness. They also have enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.

Companions have access to a car for trips and appointments. Ask about travel costs and whether the car will meet your needs.

The team can keep in touch with your family and health or care workers if you agree.
