Therapeutic gardening programmes near Reading

Thrive Reading runs supported gardening programmes for disabled people, people with health conditions and people who feel socially isolated.

The gardens are in Beech Hill, near Reading. People travel from Surrey, Berkshire, North Hampshire and South Oxfordshire to attend.

Staff trained in therapeutic gardening work with volunteers to help each person work towards their own goals.

Activities may include:

• growing plants
• caring for a garden
• learning practical gardening skills
• working on your own or with a group
• meeting other people
• taking part in conservation work

Gardening activities may help you:

• stay physically active
• practise movement and coordination
• learn new skills
• build confidence
• take part in meaningful activities
• meet and work with other people

General sessions are for adults with a learning disability, physical disability or long-term health condition.

Life Changers is a free four-month gardening programme for adults living with a life-changing illness, injury or health condition. It may also support people who have been through a major change in their life.

Garden Explorers is a holiday club for children and young people aged 11 to 17 with special educational needs or disabilities.
